Come out for this free presentation and learn about the history of Chesterfield County spanning over 250 years.  Our Guest Speaker, Bryan Truzzie, is the Historic Sites Supervisor with Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation.  He will also highlight many historic sites in our county.

Yes, bowling is a fun game indeed. This exciting sport is the most popular game worldwide. People enjoy bowling all year round. This accessible sport is fitted for people of all ages. The simple and easy-going style of the game makes it fun for all ages. Being so easy for everyone to reach, it makes a great summer activity as well as throughout the year.

 Appomattox Civil War - Van Tour (Private)

This guided driving tour will focus on various sites along the Appomattox within the village of Colonial Heights that played an important part during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign of 1864.  Learn about the Battle of Chester Station, visit Fort Clifton Park and view fortifications along the river, visit the Violet Bank Museum and Swift Creek Mill to learn about the first days battles of this campaign.

Wear comfortable shoes.  Bring a packed lunch and drinks.  Rest Stops included. 

 Place: Meet at the Highlands Sales Center (pool) parking lot.
 Time: Arrive by 9:45am for a 10:00 - 2:00 tour.
 Cost: $ 8.00 each - in advance (required by Chesterfield  Parks & Recreation).  Sylvia must receive your payment (after 2/5) by Fri. 3/11.

 Historic Garden Week - Petersburg Tour

Garden Club of VA Petersburg Tour

Much of this walking and driving tour in Petersburg takes place in the Historic Poplar Lawn District, which began as Fort Henry in 1653.  

• Four of those homes are showcased on this tour and are within walking distance of each other. 
   1) 129 Marshall Street; 
   2) 215 South Jefferson Street;
   3) 133 Marshall Street;
   4) 221 South Jefferson Street.
• Garden Only - 1675 Mount Vernon Street.
• Of equal importance are other featured properties.
  > Historic Battersea, 1289 Upper Appomattox Street;

Derby Day Clubhouse Party  CANCELLED (low #s)

- Watch the Kentucky Derby with friends.

May 7th is the famed Derby Day at Church Hill Downs in Louisville , Kentucky.  Join in our own Derby Day festivities at the Clubhouse where we will watch the races. 

Derby glasses will be provided for use (not for keeps) for you to "make your own Derby Day Cocktail" Maybe even a mint Julep? Please bring your own ingredients for your favorite recipe.

Please bring a dish to share during this event.

You'll have an opportunity to place your bet on the races.  There's no limit on how much to bet, but a minimum $5.00 bet will be split across 4 bets as follows: 1st place = $2.00, 2nd place = $1.50, 3rd place = $1.00, and 4th place = $0.50.  All winnings will be distributed that night (if the winning horse has no one betting on it, then the money transfers to 2nd place, etc.).

 Polo Outing - King Family Vineyards

The Roseland Polo Club has grown from David and Ellen’s vision - to strive to grow the sport of polo in the Charlottesville area. The Roseland Polo Club gives the public exposure to polo through free polo matches for watching every Sunday and offering fans a chance to learn to play through The Roseland Polo School.

 Place: King Family Vineyards - just west of Charlottesville

 Time: Gates Open 10:00 am (to find a spot);  Matches begin at Noon.
The event lasts about 2 hrs from the 12:00 pm start.

Designed for groups who wish for a more leisurely tour experience. Explore the Central Garden along flat pathways closest to the Robins Visitor Center (map). Enjoy the formal bed displays, the Kroger Community Kitchen Garden, and the Louise Cochrane Rose Garden (during peak season only). Garden Guides can pace the visit to suit your group. Abundant displays from orchids to artwork make this a rewarding visit without extensive walking.

Enjoy an outing to a local farm house brewery just outside of Chesterfield, 8 miles off of 288 in Powhatan, VA . Fine Creek Brewing Company offers twelve rotating craft beers along with Virginia Wine and Cider. This location offers a 50 seat taproom, covered porch with tables as well as shaded picnic tables with plenty of room for us to mingle with each other. Join other NFP members to attend and view LIVE Thoroughbred Horse Racing at Colonial Downs in New Kent.  Cost includes covered outdoor Grandstand Box group Seating and daily live racing programs.  

Colonial’s two state-of-the-art racing surfaces are second to none. The Secretariat Turf Course is the widest grass racing surface in North America and has played host to champion horses over the last two decades in prestigious races like the New Kent County Virginia Derby. The dirt track is the country’s second largest and offers equine athletes a safe and sprawling oval to compete over.

It doesn’t get much lazier than this. On a hot summer day, you can pack up the family, some friends and your favorite goodies in a cooler for a picnic lunch on the water to enjoy. The shuttle will take you upriver from our HQ and you will drift back to where your car is parked in Scottsville (≈4 hrs). This section is great for beginners and those wanting the river to do the work.

  MUST WEAR SHOES (beach/sand shoes or old tennis shoes).

 Tangier Island Cruise

Visit the remote Tangier Island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay for a day of family fun!  Your cruise leaves from Historic Reedville, VA, the center of the largest fishing industry in the United States. Our ship, the Chesapeake Breeze, is comfortable, and the views from the upper deck can’t be beaten.

The ship often passes fishing boats working their nets or large ocean freighters traveling between Baltimore and Norfolk or points beyond. You also see Tangier Island watermen making their living on the bay. Walk around this quaint island or take a tour on a mini-bus. Either way, you are sure to remember your trip to Tangier Island for a long time to come.

Explore the 4.5 mile quaint fisherman island on foot or by golf cart and have lunch at one of their restaurants (or pack a lunch) before returning to dock for a 2:15 pm departure.
