Updates:

• October '22 Update by Elliot:

See [above] below calendar for next year's Bocce get togethers. Let me know if there is any major date conflict that I need to change. If you want to host on a particular date, let me know. Also, if you did not host this past year please do so this upcoming year. We all need to take a turn. Thanks.

Bocce was played October 9th with the team of (from right) Cindy and Lou DelVecchio and Penny and Jeff Milner defeating (from left) Sandy and Dale Jones and Sylvia and Mark Fetty in the final match. It turned out to be a beautiful day, with a wide variety of wonderful food to enjoy.

- March '22 Update:

We kicked off the Bocce Ball season March 20th on a beautiful first day of Spring.  We shared a bountiful feast and then proceeded to serious (or not so serious) play.  There were many hard fought games, some even going into overtime, and fortunately no major injuries were reported.  In the end, victory was had by the team of Verna Halloran, Marilyn Mare, Jack Bansbach, and Annette Bansbach.  It was a fun filled day.

Our next event will be held April 24th..

- Nov. '21 Update:

Our final Bocce Ball event of the year was held on November 7th.

A Championship Playoff was conducted, and after a hard fought game the team of (below, from right) Lynn and Jane Herman, DiAnne Steele, and Susan Gray emerged victorious over (from left) Lou and Cindy DelVecchio and Jeff and Penny Milner.

Congratulations to all participants on a fun year.
Bocce will restart on March 20, 2022. All are welcome to join us.

- Sep.'21 Update:
By Bocce Ball (Elliot Siegel):
We restarted Bocce in March. Events were subsequently held in April, May, and June. Everyone attending has been vaccinated. The pot-luck food and camaraderie add greatly to this fun get-together. Winning teams have included Willie Wilson and the Siegels, the Grays and Tootles, the Truetts and Fordhams, and the DelVecchios and Milners. Two point leaners have been scored by Marilyn, Elliot, Dan, and Susan S. There have been many exciting matches including a few Overtime games. Bocce is quite easy to play and provides for "friendly" competition. If you haven't signed up and wish to attend please contact me.

Hosting

Three households will sign up to host each event. Their responsibilities include:

  1.  Arriving by 12:30 PM on Sunday to set up the food and court areas.
  2. Bringing bottled water, soft drinks, cold beer, and two large bottles each of white and red wine. One large bag of ice will be needed for the drinks, tablecloths (3) as well as paper products (forks, knives, spoons, small and large paper plates, napkins, cups, toilet paper, paper towels, large trash bags).
  3. Bringing a food dish to share (as all attendees do).
  4. Staying at the end to help clean up the clubhouse and court area and taking out the trash.

RULES FOR GAME:

  • Each participant will be assigned to a team. Depending on the number of players, we will play to 7, 9, or 11 points per game.
  • Bocce is played with one small ball (Pallino) and eight larger balls (four green and four red). The small ball is thrown first and becomes the target. Two to four players from each team are positioned at opposite ends of the Court and stay there for the entire round. A member of each team throws alternately until all balls are played.
  • Scoring- Only one team may score points after each frame depending on whose ball is closest to the pallino. One point is awarded for each ball that is closer to the pallino than the nearest ball of the opposing team. If a ball is leaning on the pallino, it is worth two points. Whether the game is scored to 7, 9, or 11, the winning team must win by two points. The team scoring last throws the pallino to begin the next frame. If a player’s ball touches the back wall without first striking another ball, that ball is considered dead and removed from play until the next frame.
